This Old House

"This Old House"
pastel on pastel board
5 x 7 inches
This old house, stripped down to light and shadow, old boards and memories. The wood holds the scent of the past and memories of a different way of life.

Just Beachy

Just the beach on a warm windy day. Sun on my skin and wind in my hair. Sea salt in my nose. Love it every day and in every season. Good therapy today and every day.

Just a Tree

Just a tree by a lake on a fall day in Dallas, Texas. Sailboats sitting hopeful in the background, waiting for the wind to pick up enough to be taken out for a sail.

Rain Delay

Daily painting 6 x 7 inches
pastel on paper
The crowd and rowers endure the drizzle and wind waiting and hoping for a break in the rain to continue the day's races. Rowing, a brutal sport, not for the faint of heart or fair weather sports fans.

Watch the Rigger

Daily painting
5 x 5 inches pastel on paper
Summer rowing at the boathouse. It heats up fast in Texas but if you get up early enough it isn't too bad. At least the sunshine comes early and then it's time to retire inside for a tall cold glass of water.
Not a bad way to start the day with the slight breeze and flat water.

Lobster House

"Lobster House"
pastel on paper 5 x 5 inches
unframed $100.00
Lobster cages piled up waiting for their chance to go to sea. There is always work to be done here for the lobster fishermen who wake up early to drop their traps onto the ocean floor and return later with high hopes for dinner or their daily haul.

Calle D Santa Ana

pastel on paper 5 x 5"
unframed $100.00
A hot day in New Orleans, not a breeze in sight. Crossing Calle D Santa Ana now St Ann Street.  There is definitely some history in this old city and I bet there would be some tales to be told if the walls could talk!

Plein air by Night

pastel on board 5 x 7
Plein air by night. Overlooking the beach from the condo balcony when the crowds have dissipated and the sound of crashing waves replace the cacophony of voices and bird cries.  I think I may like the beach even better at night than during the day. Peaceful and not as hot, a place to unwind and let life's responsibilities float away.

Crowded

"Crowded"
Daily painting
5x5 pastel on paper

There's nothing like a day at the beach to relax and read and just chill from the weeks events - or in my case the years events. Any beach requires almost a full day of driving from Dallas, TX, but once I arrive, I leave my troubles behind. Even with crowds and sweat, it's worth the effort. Hot, crowded and sandy but good for the soul.

Fit to be Fried #1

"Fit to be Fried #1"
Daily painting pastel on paper
5 x 5".
I love green tomatoes! I was so happy to find these at central market. Just a few more paintings from them before I can fry them up! Maybe dinner tomorrow night.

Fleeting

"Fleeting"
pastel on board 5 x 7 inches
The fleeting clouds just before the wind blows them out to sea captured from the hotel balcony. My last day here on the beach and just enough time to gather more images and memories of the ocean view with the crashing waves and calling gulls. The brown pelicans do the occasional fly by, patrolling the neighborhood and maintaining the order of the beach scene.

White Rock Lake Plein Air
5 x 5 pastel on paper
One of the benefits of taking my daughter to early morning rowing practice is fresh air and plein air opportunities. This morning I arrived prepared with pastel supplies on hand. I was lucky to find a quiet spot away from energetic joggers and bikers where I shared the dock with geese and water birds and pasteled as the sun warmed the cool morning air.
